Each day I want to be the person God wants me to be. I feel my purpose on this earth is to love God, love others, and expand His kingdom as He directs. To be content in Christ, and still stretch myself to expand the kingdom of God is a challenge. I want abuse and abortion to end. I want violence to be silenced, and people of faith to be embraced. If I’m not careful, I can slip into critical words and attitudes which are neither kind nor helpful.
I realize that there is a balance required. We are foreigners here on the earth. Though we are ambassadors of the kingdom of heaven we still live in a fallen and broken world. As I find myself living with the daily discomfort of a sin-drenched society, I slip into too much busy-ness, TV, Facebook or Christian fiction. Then I stop, look up, and think, “What is missing here, Lord?”
Perhaps my joy and contentment on this earth can be found in seeking and enjoying God as my Father. When I know whose I am, I can look to Him each day and enjoy the blessings more than the discouragements. Is my job today to change the world or simply change me? (Perhaps it’s both!)
As I keep my eye upon my loving Father, I can filter the evil pressures around me and DO THE NEXT THING that the Father whispers to me. As a young mother, my days were filled with the needs of my family. My “next thing” was usually finding a way to speak the truth in love. When I stand in my position of a beloved child of the King, I am better able to expand the Kingdom of God here on earth. So the challenge we face today is to be willing to stretch ourselves and expand the kingdom of God, while still living a joy-filled life as His child.
Lord Jesus,
Please help me to remember that it is YOU that I serve. Your yoke is easy upon me and your burdens are light. Help me to only worry about the task upon Your heart today Lord, and release my discouragement and burdens to you. Help me to be full of Your love as I serve those that You have given me. Thank You for blessing me with opportunities to share Your love and expand Your kingdom in the process.
