Testing and Evaluation Services
Woodcock Johnson IV Achievement Battery (WJ-IV): Christian Cottage Schools offers nationally normed achievement testing which meets home education requirements in the state of Colorado. The assessment includes four reading sections, two math sections, two written language assessments and some general knowledge questions. Much of the test is oral. We administer it in one day, one-one-one, and preferably face-to-face. Each section will begin at a comfortable baseline level and go to an upper “ceiling” level. Breaks are given as needed. (Note: If you are unable to test in our office south of Denver, we can now set up your assessment via Zoom.)
Every student is assessed individually. Because of this, we are able to observe the learning process in action as we listen to the unique answers and observe the student in action. We use this detailed information along with the parent profiles to determine the best curriculum suggestions. (See the profile forms on this page.)
Parents generally receive their results on the same day. We also allow time for consultations to determine the best course of action from the results. This may include curriculum ideas, resources, and learning strategies.
Cognitive Skills Assessment:
We have an additional tool to determine underlying processing skills. The Gibson Cognitive Assessment will measure Processing Speed, Visual Memory, Auditory Memory, Logic and Reasoning, Auditory Processing and Visual Processing. Note: This 30-minute assessment is offered at half-price when administered the same day as the Woodcock Johnson Achievement Battery. (WJ-IV)
Private School Testing Discount: The WJ-IV Achievement Test is now only $150 while you are currently enrolled or remaining enrolled under the Christian Cottage Schools Umbrella School program. This discounted price includes a Cognitive Skills Assessment if needed. (Note: New registrations and tuition payment/arrangements must be completed within 30 days of testing.)
Portfolio Evaluation: Some Colorado families who do not wish to have their student assessed may opt for a portfolio evaluation instead. The teaching parent will then provide general goals and objectives for the two-year evaluation period along with samples of work showing early levels and recent progress. Teri Spray will then write a professional letter describing the student’s progress and giving recommendations for continued progress.
